New York Times: Does Your Language Shape How You Think?


Lacan believed that the unconscious is structured like language, and seems to imply that language has a lot to do with what shapes our sense of self.   1. I thought interesting the segment about location, geographic orientation and the use of north / south / east / west rather than left / right / up / down. Since the speakers of navigational direction literally end up with a better sense of direction, I think it would indicate some actual cognitive change.
